The University of Malawi Celebrates Golden Jubilee
AAUN member, The University of Malawi, recently celebrated 50 years of existence.
The University of Malawi (UNIMA) is the country’s oldest university. It was established in 1965, shortly after Malawi’s independence.
During the official celebrations, the country’s President, Professor Peter Mutharika, spoke of the importance of research and said that research is the “anchoring center” for UNIMA.
“Research is more than collecting and recycling the scholarly views of others. Research is about developing new ideas and new knowledge to re-engage those we teach, and the communities we serve, in calibrating new perspectives and solutions to human situations,” said President Mutharika.
AAUN values UNIMA’s commitment to fostering collaboration in higher education and research.
