Journals Consortium released the 2015 Ranking for African Universities and Higher Institutions earlier this year. The rankings, based on research publications and citations from the last five years, placed all AAUN African member institutions in the top 100.

University of Cape Town was ranked number one in Africa with the University of Pretoria ranked 3^rd and the University of Nairobi ranked 4^th. The University of Ibadan, Makerere University and the University of Ghana were all ranked in the top 15.
