5th Annual Africa-Australia Research Forum 1 September 2015, Perth

Making Growth Inclusive: The role of mining in the post-2015 development agenda for Africa

The year 2015 marks a watershed for Africa as it transitions from focusing on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to the African Union-sponsored “Common African Position” (CAP).  One area of focus of the CAP is “structural economic transformation and inclusive growth”.

Through an open invitation for keynote presentations, panel discussions, full research papers, early career researcher posters, and small group deliberations, participants in the fifth annual Africa-Australia Research Forum (AARF) will be invited to consider the role of mining in supporting inclusive growth for Africa.

This year the AARF proudly announce that selected papers will be invited to submit a full submission (both ‘Original Research Papers’ and ‘Review Papers’) to a 2016 special issue of The Extractive Industries and Society (Elsevier).

Held in partnership with Africa Down Under, the AARF brings together industry, civil society, government and academia in an environment of mutual respect to explore various aspects of the extractives sector with particular reference to the continent of Africa.

Confirmed AARF Partners include: Murdoch University, Paydirt Media & Africa Down Under, Curtin University, The University of Western Australia, Australia Africa Mining Industry Network (AAMIG), the Australia-Africa Universities Network (AAUN) and The Extractive Industries and Society.

The deadline for submission of abstracts (150 word maximum – see below for additional guidelines) for early career researcher posters and papers to be presented as part of panel discussions is no later than June 30, 2015. Authors will be contacted regarding their submission no later than July 10, 2015, earlier notification is possible to allow for travel planning purposes.

Please refer to The Extractive Industries and Society Author Guide and Information Pack pdf for the full paper submission instructions.

The deadline for submission of the completed ‘Original Research Papers’ and ‘Review Papers’ for the 2016 special issue of The Extractive Industries and Society is 1 October 2015, after the conference. The submission will proceed through a conventional peer-review and authors shall submit through The Extractive Industries and Society journal website.
