AAUN Researcher Participates in Tropical Agriculture Conference 2015

Dr George Okoo Abong’ from the University of Nairobi’s Department of Food Science Nutrition and Technology, recently attended the University of Queensland Tropical Agriculture Conference (TropAg) as part of his AAUN PRDF project.

Dr Abong’, who received a 2014 PRDF grant for his project titled “Development of sweetpotato postharvest-handling technologies for improved safety and quality of fresh and processed forms,”attended the conference and was hosted by Dr Peter Sopade from the Centre for Nutrition and Food Science, University of Queensland as part of the AAUN exchange visit to Australia.

TropAg took place 16-18 November 2015 at the Brisbane Convention Centre and aimed to bring together many of the leading scientific voices and facilitated cross-border collaboration, new project development and technology transfer – and focused on the delivery of a diverse range of tropical and subtropical agricultural scientific advances for the food, plant and animal industries.

The conference provided a platform for networking, sharing research findings and was an avenue for exchanging essential ideas and learning in the plant, animal, food, and nutrition areas of tropical agriculture. TropAg revolved around the definition of the food challenge in the tropics and focused on provision of solutions through integrated farming systems, pathways for sustainable development, mixed farming systems and financial, labour and livestock management.
